Your repairs and cleaning agenda should not take very long to keep your aquarium luminous and strong. Cleaning your fish tank not only helps with the outward show of the tank by removing algae, but can also draw out the life of your fish, as no pet can exist in an harmful situation. Algae can be detached from the tank glass and aquarium ornaments with an algae magnet or scraper. Remember to recurrently remove any dead leaves from live vegetation. Do not overfeed your fish as this will cause excess waste in the water which will remain at the underside of the tank and need to be removed.
Often an aquarium sponge can be used against stubborn green spots or you can use a plastic putty (body filler, putty Japan) can that you use to clean the lenses with an equilateral triangle made of plastic.
Water conditioners may or may not be needed, depending on the clorination rate in your area. You can find out about the water parameters by asking at the local water authority. If you go on vacation, you should leave your aquarium for no longer than a week without attention. Juvinile fish need to be fed daily, but adult fish can go a few days. You should have someone come in to feed the fish or set up an automatic fish feeder. A well-established aquarium can last about three weeks without fish food if necessary, but this is not advised as the fish could srave.
Be sure that caregiver is to feed only what you tell them and nothing else. If necessary, set out the fish rations for each day so they wont overfeed them, as this could raist the nitrite and nitrate values. If you have problems and you stored the phone number of a club member or a local retailer, you can ask in advance for such a case for help. Before you leave on a longer holiday you should do a large water change, and darken the room if necessary (so that it does not heat up too much). The electrical equipment / filters should be checked again just to see if everything running properly. If you include in your holiday plans, the feeding / care of your fish while you are gone, you can can enjoy your holidays in peace and not have to abandon this beautiful hobby.
